Suehiro Gokumyo GMN200 #20000 Super Fine Finishing Ceramic Whetstone – Made in Japan
¥29,999
Experience the smoothness of superb sharpening. Never deforming or degrading, the “Gokumyo” is our ultimate whetstone. The “Suehiro Gokumyo Series” is made with our unique combination of ultra-fine abrasives, and binders. Our fired ceramic whetstones, while taking full advantage of the properties of ultra-fine abrasives, overcome the drawbacks of conventional natural and resin based whetstones, which could lose their hardness due to temperature changes, or when immersed in water, and which could suffer surface degradation and cracking. The abrasives have been enhanced from #13,000 (1.0 micron) to #20,000 (0.5 micron), resulting in a whetstone giving a smooth, superbly sharp edge, far exceeding the synthetic stones which came before. ALTSTONE offers products that reflect the refinement and subtlety of Japan’s sharpening culture. By carefully selecting specifications such as hardness and surface texture, we aim to ensure a smooth and satisfying sharpening experience. Whether you’re just starting out or already familiar with sharpening, we focus on offering stones that are easy to use—yet precise enough that you can clearly feel the difference in sharpness after each session. SUEHIRO Bespoke Sharpening stone KOUSEKI SRK-10000 Super fine finishing Whetstone #10000
¥18,780
“Kouseki” – a super finishing whetstone originally produced by the magnesium oxide method, valued as an alternative to natural whetstones for polishing blades such as barber scissors. Our unique firing process reproduced its hard, dense, and smooth sharpening feel with strong grinding power. It was highly regarded as a high-quality whetstone without concerns of deterioration or cracking. As one of Suehiro’s signature brands, “Kouseki” served as a replacement for high-grade natural whetstones, which had long suffered from quick depletion. The earlier version of Kouseki was manufactured by the magnesium oxide method, a natural cementing technique developed in the 1970s that combined ultrafine abrasive particles with magnesium oxide (MgO). This gave it strong sharpening power and effectiveness for stainless steel and cobalt cemented carbide barber scissors, razors, and similar tools. However, whetstones made by the magnesium oxide method also had weaknesses: deterioration from long immersion in water, and cracking caused by temperature changes or drying. In response to user requests to overcome these issues while preserving the excellent sharpening feel, Suehiro undertook many years of research and development. The result is the “New Kouseki” (improved based on customer feedback). By adopting our original vitrified manufacturing (firing) method, we have succeeded in reproducing and even surpassing the sharpening feel and grinding power of the magnesium oxide version, while eliminating its former shortcomings. Made with #10000 (sub-micron) ultrafine abrasive particles, it delivers stable performance, refined sharpening, and uncompromising quality. Enjoy the “New Kouseki”—a whetstone created without compromise, improved for modern use while carrying forward the spirit of its predecessor.
